Dear Friends,
“We’ve come such a long way. I don’t want to lay my body on the ground again.” - from a family who received rent assistance after the wage earner was unexpectedly hospitalized Words tell stories. Words people say stick with us. Sometimes I don’t have enough words to tell you how the stories we hear touch us and motivate us to do good . . . the kind of good that helped keep this family in their home. There is one important word you’ve made possible for us to say and hear time and time again: Yes. A young family that suffered wage and savings loss asked us for a small boost to help them make rent for one month. We happily said yes. A struggling parent burst into tears when we asked if she wanted to sign up for free gifts, food, and a tree for Christmas - a program she didn’t know about. She joyously said yes. A woman transitioning from volunteer work at the Center to paid work elsewhere asked us to be her job reference. We were thrilled to say yes. Every day, we collect and act on more words and more stories. Our story is entwined with the futures of families and individuals we serve every day. In the new year, we are surveying our patrons and evaluating our programs so we can strengthen our story and share it with you. Thank you for helping us be a place that can say yes.
