Welcome to the Vina Moses Center |
Dear Friends, |
It’s almost summer which means our Benefit sale is just around the corner, closely followed by our school program. The Benefit sale is July 9 and 10 at the First United Methodist Church’s community center. We will have lots of collectibles, and fun things for sale. Please stop by to browse for that “have to have” item you have been looking for. If you have items you would like to donate please bring to the Center and let our volunteers know they are for the sale.
The School Program is scheduled for August 25 – 28, here at the Center. Last year we served more than 1,000 children and expect similar numbers again this year. You will have an opportunity to sponsor children for this program. I will send the information about sponsoring children in late July. Remember you can make donations on line www.vinamoses.org and with Visa, MasterCard and Discover card.
We look forward to seeing you at the sale!

The 2009 Vina Moses Christmas Program
The Vina Moses Christmas Program was held at the Randy Jones Chevrolet Building. Shannon and Randy Jones graciously donated the space from November 23 to December 23.
Thanks to all of you who volunteered at the Christmas Program. You sorted food and gifts, put together food boxes, guided parents selecting gifts, checked people in, and helped them carry food and gifts out. Our apologies to those of you who came to volunteer and were told there was nothing to do. It is so hard to know when deliveries will be made and to know when room will be available to sort and box food. We will try to have a new, improved system to schedule volunteers next year.
Approximately 1150 families received food and or gifts. Seven hundred families picked up their food/gifts at the distribution center at Randy Jones Chevrolet, Boxes for 83 families were delivered to Monroe, 47 boxes were delivered to Alsea, 49 boxes were delivered to Benton Plaza, and 118 were delivered to families in the Corvallis area. Seventy five families were adopted. The remainder of the families came to the Vina Moses Center from December 21 – 23. The Center was closed for regular business on those days, but volunteers were there to help families who for a variety of reasons were unable to get to the distribution center.
Gifts were provided for children though age 12 and for adults when there was a referral from a social service agency. Gifts came from 31 giving trees in the community, toy drives by schools, businesses and organizations, and donations from individuals. Toys were sorted and displayed in the Randy Jones sales room. Most parents select the gifts for their children. Typically each family gets one puzzle or game, one book per child, two toys per child, one clothing item per child, and stocking stuffers.
Food for the program came from the following sources: food remaining at the end of the Community Thanksgiving program, food drives by schools and organizations, donations by individuals, and purchases made with money donated. We purchased through Linn/Benton Food Share 1000 dozen eggs, 1000 pounds of margarine, 1500 cans of tuna, 500 cans of stew, 1500 cans of soup, 1500 boxes of macaroni and cheese, 500 boxes of pasta, 500 cans of spaghetti sauce, 1000 cans of green beans, 1000 Cans of corn, 960 cans of peaches. Three totes of potatoes were used; two donated by Linn/Benton Food Share and one by St. Mary’s church. Apples and oranges were donated by Food Share. In addition to food families receive a grocery store gift card. Vina Moses purchased 900 gift cards ($9,500.00) Salvation Army provided 250 cards ($2,500).
